Russian/Baylin Tiger Carpet Pythons

Archie, my founder male 50% Russian Red Tiger/50% Baylin Tiger animal

My Russian/Baylin project is just that, it is the result of a pair of animals that are both 50% Russian blood and 50% Baylin tiger blood. I am of the opinion that the different lines of striped coastals should be referred to as what they are. Just because they are striped doesn’t automatically make them a tiger. To me, a tiger is an animal that can be traced back to Jason Baylin’s line of Tiger coastals. Since this project has 50% blood from two well-known lineages within carpets here in the states, I will refer to them as to what they are. 50% Russian/50% Baylin Tigers.

So, my start with this project was unintentional. I didn’t seek out these animals, they just kind of fell into my lap. I spoke about Kyle Rozecki before when I talked about the Jag “Max” in the striped coastal project. I got a lot of animals from Kyle in that deal so I’m sure I will continue to bring him up.

Tesla at about a year old.

During the deal for Max, Kyle sent me a couple pics of other things he was moving since he was getting out of the hobby. He sends me this pic of Tesla and I immediately said yes. I didn’t know her background or anything when I decided I wanted her. It wasn’t until after I asked him to throw her in the box that I found out she was half Russian Tiger blood and half Baylin Tiger blood. This was before people started to care about the Russian Tiger stuff, so I was just happy she had some Baylin blood in her.

Kyle actually ended up sending me two separate boxes of snakes. The second one just happened and wasn’t planned. I reached out to him about a pure Peterson female he had and after a back and forth, he drops the bomb of Archie. He didn’t think I would be interested since I already had his genes with Tesla from the last box.

After asking the usual questions, I find out that Archie and Tesla have the same Dam, the pure Russian female Kyle had. They both had Baylin Tiger Sires but Kyle had two different Baylin Tigers and used them both on alternating years. So, I was pleased to find out that they weren’t direct siblings and had different Sires with the same lineage.

Here is a picture of the first clutch from Archie and Tesla in 2020.

To date, I have bred Archie to Tesla twice. The first clutch was a bigger clutch and I held back 1.3 from that clutch. I got a mix of normal and red animals within both clutches. I ended up with 1.1 normals and 0.2 reds. This makes sense since both the Baylin tiger line and Russian tiger line are known for throwing red coastals. The Russian tiger line has also been referred to as the Red Russian tiger line. The more i look at Tesla and her hatchling pictures, the more I’m convinced she is a red coastal.

I have a few plans for this group as far as projects go. I definitely want to keep breeding 50% animals to each other and see what comes out. I have been very pleased with how the Russian line and Baylin line interact with each other.
